Our friend Ken Magerman (From Sounds and Shadows) and his band Amaranth dropped a surprise album "Gothtimism" yesterday! This album has been a long time in the works, and we're super stoked it's finally here, and it definitely does not disappoint. It's got originals, a Peter Murphy cover, and a couple remixes. What else could you want from a goth pop rock album?? It starts off with their single from last summer, "Thighs", which is still absolutely fantastic and hella hot.
The song "Gothtimist" is probably one of the coolest songs I've heard in awhile. It's got so many names in goth Goth scene that helped make it, including Jason Corbett (Actors) , Jean-Marc Lederman (The The; Gene Loves Jezebel; Fad Gadget; The Weathermen; Rohn-Lederman), Dan Milligan (The Joy Thieves; The Burying Kind), Kimberly Kornmeier (Bow Ever Down), Katy May (Katy Needs A Life), Saphira Vee, , Ryan Flint (WitchHands), Matt McIntosh (A Cloud of Ravens). This song is such an accurate picture of the shitty world we live in today, but how we goths see things from a different point of view than a lot of people, we have a community, and we all are here for each other. What better way to show that than have so many people involved in making it! Such a good and powerful track! It made me cry!
A lot of bands attempt Peter Murphy covers. This is one of the more successful ones I've heard. I love how they took a somewhat slow drab "I'll Fall With Your Knife" and made it a bit more poppy and exciting, while still staying faithful to the original. There's so much depth and emotion in this version, that I felt kind of lacked in the original. This is absolutely fantastic!
The album ends with remixes by Matt Fanale (Caustic) Eric Risks (Dread Risks) Ben Koch (SweatBoys) and Greg Weir (UIU). All of them are absolutely great! I always love a good remix because it's so cool to hear what someone else does with a piece of music.
This album is just so good. If you haven't checked it out yet, don't sleep on this one! It's absolutely fantastic, and I can't say enough good things about it! It really spoke to me, and I hope you feel the same.
